Agenda Zuidas Develops

Have your say on the beautiful new square on Europaboulevard

Next to Europaplein and opposite RAI Amsterdam, an attractive new square will be constructed featuring greenery, art and/or a play area in exchange for run-down parking spaces. So what should it look like? The choice is yours! Come along and have your say between 3 and 6 April in the tent situated on the site.

Next to Europaboulevard is a slightly downcast playground with parking spaces behind it. We’d like to turn this into a beautiful park area.

Together with you, we want to turn the plot of land on Europaboulevard between Rooseveltlaan and President Kennedylaan into an inviting park in which residents young and old can rub shoulders and get to know each other. From 3-6 April, the urban districts of Amsterdam Zuidas and Zuid will pitch a tent on the site and every day, a programme will be organised with the aim of talking to as many of the residents in the surrounding area as possible.

From playground to park

The square is part of the Green Zuidas Plan, which sets out how we will boost the quality of greenery in Zuidas. Greenery is vital as it boosts quality of life in the city, creates a more pleasant atmosphere, cleans the air and helps to capture rainwater. The large trees that are currently on the square are in excellent health and will therefore be kept in place. However, there’s plenty of room for more trees, not to mention bushes, grass and flowers! Would you like a park where you can sit quietly with a good book, chat with a neighbour or have a nice picnic in the summer? Or should it be a playground where children can run, jump and play to their heart’s content? The choice is yours!

Parking and art

Is anything possible? Well no, but a lot certainly is. We’d like to remove the parking spaces from the square to make way for more greenery. Research conducted into parking shows that this is certainly feasible as there is less demand for parking on the square than in the surrounding streets and a reduction in parking spaces would be in line with municipal policy to keep the city on a ‘low-car diet’! In addition, we’d like to give ‘Virtual Fountains’ – a unique work of art by Femke Schaap – a permanent home on the square. More information on this project will be provided soon.

Have your say

You can share your ideas with us via a series of brainstorming sessions, each of which can be attended by a maximum of 12 participants. You can register for one of these sessions below (registration is mandatory for participation). Of course, in addition to the brainstorming sessions, you can simply drop in to ask questions or tell us about your ideas. We will also arrange sessions with artist Femke Schaap, who will tell you about her new work. We’d love to see you! At the bottom of this message you can find the programme newsletter, which contains more information about the idea and the programme contents. If you wish to take part in one of the brainstorming sessions, be sure to register as soon as possible. On Saturday 6 April, we will show you the results of the preceding days (no registration is required for this presentation). View the programme newsletter below.
