Major maintenance work on Buitenveldertselaan until May 2023

Work has been ongoing on Buitenveldertselaan since the beginning of April 2022. This work includes repaving the pedestrian and bicycle paths, resurfacing the road and replacing the gas pipes and sewers. The work will last until the end of May 2023.

Dutch parliament and Amsterdam City Council notified of contract for renovation work at Amsterdam Zuid station

On 15 April 2022, the Dutch House of Representatives and Amsterdam city council were notified of an important step in the renovation of Amsterdam Zuid railway station: the awarding of the contract for phase 1 of the station renovation.

Plan for Art Bridge across De Boelegracht open for consultation

It has taken a while, but the plan for the new Art Bridge (‘De Kunstbrug’) across De Boelegracht is now open for consultation. A briefing for local residents about the design was held on 12 April 2022. Interested parties now have until 14 May 2022 to submit their opinions.

Summer disruption for Zuidas traffic and transport

Starting in mid-July 2022, major works will cause traffic and transport disruption in Zuidas. Metro line 52 will not run to Zuid station for a seven-day period. The A4 and A10 Zuid in the direction of Utrecht will be closed for 11 days. There will be a reduced train service. Below, we provide a summary of three weeks of work during the summer.

Beethovenstraat and Strawinskylaan cyclist tunnels closed

We are about to relandscape the area around WTC Tower Ten. To make this possible, we need to close the cyclist tunnels under Beethovenstraat and Strawinskylaan from 18 April until the end of September 2022. Temporary crossings for cyclists will be made available in the meantime.

Copper heart glistens behind the glass of EDGE Stadium

The new exterior of EDGE Stadium, former headquarters of Loyens & Loeff, is more or less complete. As a result, the characteristic copper heart of the building in Fred. Roeskestraat is suddenly behind a transparent façade.

Meeting about redevelopment of central section of De Boelelaan

The central section of De Boelelaan, between Beethovenstraat and Parnassusweg, is being redeveloped, adding a new green section and bringing changes to the traffic situation. A meeting about it is being held on Tuesday, 12 April 2022, both in person (fully subscribed) and online.

Former British School makes way for housing

The former main building of the Amsterdam British School in Fred. Roeskestraat is being demolished. The school moved to new accommodation in Havenstraat last year. The location will now be used for social housing.

Largest social housing project in Zuidas starts

Construction work started on Stepstone on 1 April 2022. Boasting 216 rental apartments for first-timers, this is the largest social housing project so far in Zuidas. In the same neighbourhood, Kenniskwartier (Knowledge District), some 2,700 homes are being built in the years ahead.

Circular concrete in The Newton sustainable housing complex

The first concrete has been poured for the energy-efficient apartment block The Newton in Kop Zuidas, on which construction started last year. But this is not just any concrete. The Newton will have the highest percentage of circular concrete in the Netherlands.

City Executive approves new Kenniskwartier development

The Amsterdam City Executive has approved the development plan for the area to the east of The Edge. This makes it possible to build housing, together with amenities and offices, set in a calm and green courtyard garden.
