In the new Ravel residential district, something extraordinary is happening. To the south of the AFC football pitches, we are digging a canal: Ravelgracht. The fertile soil that we are removing is set to be reused in other places in Amsterdam.
In Beethovenstraat, Zadelhoff is developing the complex ‘The Harmony’, with 63 social rental homes and 85 mid-market rental homes. They will be part of the new Ravel residential district that is set to be built between the new AFC football pitches and De Boelelaan.
Starting in September 2023, we will spend a year working on the entrance to the new Ravel residential district: Maurice Ravellaan, with space for pedestrians, cyclists and plenty of green areas. We are also digging an actual canal, complete with bridges to the AFC sports fields.
In the Ravel residential neighbourhood, the Kindercampus Zuidas has a brand-new natural playground and it’s even better than the old one. ‘In my view, a natural playground can be judged a success if there are as many places to hide as possible.’
From Friday, 2 September until Friday, 21 October 2022, there will be further traffic disruption and potentially also noise nuisance in Beethovenstraat, between Gustav Mahlerlaan and De Boelelaan. This is because of works in preparation for the new Ravel residential district.
The fifth and final AFC pitch has now been moved in a northerly direction. This completes the redevelopment of the sports park. It has created space for the new Ravel residential neighbourhood, where we will be building around 1,350 homes in the years ahead.
For their module in ‘sustainable local development’, pupils from Vossius Gymnasium have been working on ideas for the Ravel district. They talked to experts, carried out field research and presented their ideas to a jury – who were very impressed!
One of the first projects in the new residential neighbourhood of Ravel has now been announced: Tic-Tac-Toe. The project will include 75 family homes of an average of 80 square metres in the medium-priced rental segment. Construction will begin in early 2024 and is expected to be completed in 2025.
We are going to cut down four trees on the eastern side of Beethovenstraat. These are located just south of Valley and the future Maurice Ravellaan. They need to be removed because we have to reroute underground pipes and cables for the new residential area of Ravel.
Next to the southern entrance to Valley, the first piece of Maurice Ravellaan is now in place. This avenue will be the access route to the new Ravel residential neighbourhood. A crossroads has now appeared where Mahlerlaan previously formed a T-junction with Beethovenstraat.
Goed Genoeg, the new public sports park, and the new AFC clubhouse were officially inaugurated on Saturday 4 September 2021. The sports fields have been moved slightly to the north to make room for new houses in the residential district of Ravel.
Anyone looking east beyond Gustav Mahlerlaan will see a trench, 10 m wide and 5 m deep, running alongside Valley. It is a new link in the planned loop system around Zuidas. ‘We’ll be creating some lasagne here.’
