Time for a greener Vivaldi as development continues
In the years ahead, we are making the Vivaldi neighbourhood, which includes EMA and the hotel Van der Valk Amsterdam Zuidas, greener and developing it further. In order to prepare the land in advance, we are carrying out a range of surveys in the period ahead. This may cause some disruption.
Making space for Ravel residential district set to cause disruption
Until the end of 2025, we will be working with utility companies to set up the underground cable and pipeline network for the new Ravel residential district. In early 2026, we will begin roadbuilding work on Maurice Ravellaan. This will cause disruption to traffic in Beethovenstraat and Ravellaan.
New Maurice Ravellaan opens briefly
From Friday, 31 January, the new Maurice Ravellaan, alongside the AFC football club, has been opened for pedestrians, cyclists and cars. However, this will not last long – because we will be working on underground cables and pipelines again in May this year.
Making room underground for Ravel housing
On 25 November 2024, we will start work moving cables and pipelines on the east side of Beethovenstraat. This is in order to create space to build The Harmony complex with 150 rented homes. There will be diversions in place for cyclists and pedestrians.
Europaboulevard closed for resurfacing work
From 21 May until the end of August 2024, the City of Amsterdam is working on the Europaboulevard. Parts of the carriageway will be closed for resurfacing work at various times. The S109 access road and exit will close several times.
Parnassusweg now safer to cross at Gustav Mahlerlaan
After several complaints, we made adjustments to the crossing for cyclists and pedestrians in Parnassusweg at the end of April 2024. We removed the barriers on the footpath and a new traffic bollard now prevents vehicles from using the cycle path to turn around.
Working together on a vibrant Kenniskwartier
Kenniskwartier (Knowledge District) is developing fast. VU Campus is being regenerated, around 2,700 homes are set to be built and there are new amenities and green areas under development along with a thriving centre for research and education. All of this in what will soon be an amazingly accessible location.
Emergency department entrance in Amstelveenseweg made safer
In the weekend of 16 and 17 December 2023, we made modifications to the entrance to the emergency department of Amsterdam UMC, location VUmc. The entrance is now wider and easier to navigate, making it much safer, especially for cyclists and pedestrians.
28-11 to 8-12: tram track maintenance in Parnassusweg
From 28 November until 8 December 2023, the GVB will be carrying out maintenance work on the tram track in Parnassusweg. GVB will be working at night on weekdays and night and day during the weekend from 1 to 4 December. Pedestrians, cyclists and car traffic will experience disruption.
Safe and green Wielingenstraat completed
On Friday, 20 November work was completed on a safer and greener Wielingenstraat. All the street paving has been replaced and there is a separate cycle path on both sides. There is also a wide, green central reservation.
Changes to emergency department entrance in Amstelveenseweg postponed
Most of the planned works on the entrance to the emergency department at UMC, location VUmc, have now been postponed until after the winter of 2023. The forecast of wet weather means that there is too great a risk of delays and major traffic disruption on the busy Amstelveenseweg.
Safer access to emergency department at Amsterdam UMC-VUmc location
From 3 to 5 November 2023, Amstelveenseweg will be closed in the Amstelveen direction between De Boelelaan and Van Nijenrodeweg. We are making changes to the entrance to the emergency department at Amsterdam UMC-VUmc location in order to improve traffic safety.
