Working together on a vibrant Kenniskwartier

Kenniskwartier (Knowledge District) is developing fast. VU Campus is being regenerated, around 2,700 homes are set to be built and there are new amenities and green areas under development along with a thriving centre for research and education. All of this in what will soon be an amazingly accessible location.

Emergency department entrance in Amstelveenseweg made safer

In the weekend of 16 and 17 December 2023, we made modifications to the entrance to the emergency department of Amsterdam UMC, location VUmc. The entrance is now wider and easier to navigate, making it much safer, especially for cyclists and pedestrians.

New speed limit of 30 in Gustav Mahlerlaan-West

In February 2023, the maximum permitted speed in Gustav Mahlerlaan-West will be reduced from 50 km/h to 30 km/h. This will make this section of the Kenniskwartier between the Vrije Universiteit and Parnassusweg somewhat safer, before around 500 new homes are built there in the near future.

VU’s new Research Building now windtight and watertight

The exterior walls of Vrije Universiteit’s new Research Building are now windtight and watertight. The structure along the side of the building which protects cyclists and pedestrians from any falling building materials can now also be removed. Work will also begin on fitting out the laboratories inside the building.

Straight to VU Amsterdam via Gustav Mahlerlaan

The crossing over the road and tramlines in Parnassusweg has now been completed. This means that pedestrians heading from Amsterdam Zuid in the direction of VU Amsterdam can now avoid the busy junction between Buitenveldertselaan and De Boelelaan.

Crossing connects both halves of Mahlerlaan

It’s a real inconvenience: Gustav Mahlerlaan is rudely interrupted by a tram line right next to Parnassusweg. In the period between 17 October and 2 December, we will be adding a new crossing to connect both halves of Gustav Mahlerlaan.

A.J. Ernststraat transformed by the arrival of AICS

The arrival of the Amsterdam International Community School in A.J. Ernststraat coincides with redevelopment work on this street. The work will take place on the section between Van der Boechorststraat and Buitenveldertselaan. This will cause some disruption.

Mini-park for Amsterdam UMC, VUmc location

More green areas around Amsterdam University Medical Center (UMC). This was one of the winning ideas submitted when residents were invited to suggest initiatives for a greener Zuidas. It’s now been made a reality. ‘We really want visitors to be able to take advantage of this green area’, says our green specialist Jeroen Assen.
