From 5 to 17 June 2023, we are digging test trenches at different locations in Prinses Irenestraat. Our aim is to map out the underground cables and pipelines. Car traffic will be diverted and we expect some noise nuisance.
Starting on 3 April, the bridge for cyclists and pedestrians that connects Zuidas with the Zuid city district will be closed for a three-month period. The Minervabrug is in poor condition and will be repaired. Cyclists and pedestrians will be able to cross the Zuider Amstelkanaal in Beethovenstraat.
The old Strawinskyhuis in Prinses Irenestraat is now virtually unrecognisable. At the heart of what was once a brutalist complex, there now lies a bright and airy atrium. The building is not yet fully complete: work on it is expected to last until the end of the year.
The cycle path in Beethovenstraat that runs along the front of the WTC has been open again since 17 March 2023, to the delight of many people. It had been closed for five years to enable the construction of Tower Ten, the newest WTC tower.
From 13 March until 5 May 2023, we will be completing the work on the public space around WTC Tower Ten. This will include adding an illuminated footpath between Strawinskylaan and Beethovenstraat. In the final week, there will be some traffic disruption.
All that remains of the brutalist complex at Prinses Irenestraat 59 is its bare carcase. This 1970s building is being thoroughly refurbished before Philips moves into it in 2025. So, how is construction progressing?
On Saturday, 25 February, we will be removing a tree in Zuidplein, next to Eduard van Beinumstraat. This is necessary because we will be building the northern motorway tunnel here in the future. Before we can do that, we first need to ensure that the ground underneath is clear of obstacles.
Between 19.00 and 01.00 on the evening of Friday, 2 December, we will be working on the corner of Strawinskylaan and Beethovenstraat. Resurfacing work was recently completed here, but an inspection has revealed that the asphalt was not properly applied. We will now rectify the problem.
A thermal storage heating system is set to be installed at the Strawinskyhuis in Prinses Irenestraat. You can expect some disruption in and around Prinses Irenestraat in the period from 24 October until no later than 15 December.
We are in the process of relandscaping the area around WTC Tower Ten. Before that, we will be replacing box piles in Beethovenstraat. In order to do the work safely, we will be closing the western lane to traffic during two weekends.
We are about to relandscape the area around WTC Tower Ten. To make this possible, we need to close the cyclist tunnels under Beethovenstraat and Strawinskylaan from 18 April until the end of September 2022. Temporary crossings for cyclists will be made available in the meantime.
In Prinses Irenestraat, there is a parking area for scooters and cargo bikes. However, in practice it is mainly used for normal bikes, often badly parked and sometimes even on top of each other. We are regularly asked whether anything can be done about this.
