Central cycle path to Beatrixpark removed for house-building

Starting on 9 October, we will be removing the cycle path that leads from Beethovenstraat, between the Stibbe and AkzoNobel offices, to Beatrixpark. It runs diagonally across the site on which we will be building housing in the years ahead.

Laying of Maurice Ravellaan for new Ravel district

Starting in September 2023, we will spend a year working on the entrance to the new Ravel residential district: Maurice Ravellaan, with space for pedestrians, cyclists and plenty of green areas. We are also digging an actual canal, complete with bridges to the AFC sports fields.

Finishing touches added to The Newton

It will not be very long before The Newton is completed in Kop Zuidas. When it comes to the appearance and quality of this energy-efficient complex, it is obvious that no expense has been spared. ‘This is genuine craftsmanship: in no way is this standard housing construction.’

Beethovenstraat cycle path reopens

The cycle path in Beethovenstraat heading in the direction of Valley is again in use. We needed the cycle path in order to carry out work on cables and pipelines and prepare the two plots in the new Ravel residential district for construction. This has now been done.

Zuidas to create space for walking, cycling and public transport

The Sustainably Accessible Zuidflank Mobility Plan ('Mobiliteitsplan Zuidflank Duurzaam Bereikbaar') was approved in July 2023. This future vision of Zuidas and its surroundings envisages more space for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport – and less for cars. ‘We need a change in the way people travel.’

Everything at RDC ADORE revolves around cooperation

The ADORE Research & Diagnostic Centre (RDC ADORE) reached its highest point in June. From 2025, this Amsterdam UMC building will be home to innovative research and diagnostics at the cutting-edge of cancer and brain diseases. We went to take a look.

Circl set to continue as online platform

On 2 June 2023, Circl brought an end to the programming and room hire in the sustainable pavilion in Gustav Mahlerplein. But Circl is now moving online to take an extra step towards a circular economy. The restaurant and rooftop bar will remain open.

5 to 17 June: works in Prinses Irenestraat

From 5 to 17 June 2023, we are digging test trenches at different locations in Prinses Irenestraat. Our aim is to map out the underground cables and pipelines. Car traffic will be diverted and we expect some noise nuisance.

Construction traffic to access Kapel & Convict via pontoon

Work is currently in progress on Kapel & Convict in Beatrixpark to prepare for the accommodation of 100 Ukrainian refugees at the end of this year. From the 31 May 2023, construction traffic will be able to access the site by means of a pontoon floating in the pond. This will ensure that the busy cycle path remains free.

VU continues internal construction work on research building

As 2023 progresses, construction work on the VU Amsterdam research building is continuing, with a focus on the extraordinary inside of the building. The first work will be on the interior of the laboratories and offices on the upper floors. The cellar and ground floor will follow later.

Construction starts on art bridge across De Boelegracht

Work started on the art bridge across De Boelegracht in May 2023. We started by placing foundations on the south bank (the Buitenveldert side) in preparation for the real work: installing the bridge later this year.

Parnassusweg closed for two weekends in city direction

Because of construction work, Parnassusweg will be closed to cars and buses travelling in the direction of the city in the last weekend of May and first weekend of June 2023. This will be followed in the summer by a two-month road closure for cars travelling out of the city.
