All that remains of the brutalist complex at Prinses Irenestraat 59 is its bare carcase. This 1970s building is being thoroughly refurbished before Philips moves into it in 2025. So, how is construction progressing?
In the period from Monday, 6 March until Friday, 10 March, Liander will be replacing a gas pipeline in Antonio Vivaldistraat. Vehicles travelling in a northerly direction will be diverted and the number 464 bus stop will be out of service. There will be little or no disruption for pedestrians and cyclists.
On Saturday, 25 February, we will be removing a tree in Zuidplein, next to Eduard van Beinumstraat. This is necessary because we will be building the northern motorway tunnel here in the future. Before we can do that, we first need to ensure that the ground underneath is clear of obstacles.

The aftermath of an accident has been causing major congestion at the De Boelelaan-Beethovenstraat junction since Sunday, 5 February 2023. At the site of the incident, only one traffic lane is available in all directions. The situation is expected to last until Saturday, 11 February.
The City of Amsterdam and owner First Sponsor are initiating a study into possibilities for redeveloping the Meerparc office building in Amstelveenseweg. The two parties signed a letter of intent to this effect on 21 October 2022.
The legal battle over the setting up of a branch of McDonald’s underneath The Gustav housing complex has taken a new turn. The owner of the ground floor has won a legal case against the building’s residents. But that does not yet mean that the case is closed.
Above all else, 2022 was the year when funding for the Zuidasdok project was finalized. But of course, it was also a year when we just kept on building. Many new homes were completed and work continued on the major upgrade at Amsterdam Zuid station. Preparations also began on the renovation of the motorway interchange at De Nieuwe Meer.
For the last few months, we have been working on safer and greener design for Wielingenstraat. Work came to a temporary halt during the Christmas holidays, but will resume on 9 January 2023, with major maintenance work being completed by September 2023.
In February 2023, the maximum permitted speed in Gustav Mahlerlaan-West will be reduced from 50 km/h to 30 km/h. This will make this section of the Kenniskwartier between the Vrije Universiteit and Parnassusweg somewhat safer, before around 500 new homes are built there in the near future.
