Today was supposed to see the start of work installing sheet piling into the ground in Eduard van Beinumstraat. However, these works have now been postponed until further notice as a result of a setback.
UPDATE 21 October, 13.00: Since early afternoon on 21 October, the 50 and 51 metro service from Amsterdam Zuid station in the direction of Amsterdam Central Station and Gein has resumed. We are now permanently monitoring the situation.
From 16 October 2023 until Christmas, part of Eduard van Beinumstraat (next to Wagamama restaurant) will be transformed temporarily into a construction site. We are clearing the area underground to enable the construction of the northern motorway tunnel.
Starting on 9 October, we will be removing the cycle path that leads from Beethovenstraat, between the Stibbe and AkzoNobel offices, to Beatrixpark. It runs diagonally across the site on which we will be building housing in the years ahead.
After years of construction away from public view, the digging has started for the passenger tunnel at Amsterdam Zuid station: the Brittenpassage. We are removing 50,000 cubic metres of sand from underneath the A10, metro and railway tracks. And the site is spectacular to behold.
Starting in September 2023, we will spend a year working on the entrance to the new Ravel residential district: Maurice Ravellaan, with space for pedestrians, cyclists and plenty of green areas. We are also digging an actual canal, complete with bridges to the AFC sports fields.
In Zuidas, we are building quite a lot of construction pits, often surrounded by steel sheet pile walls. But not all these walls are the same. The method used to drive a sheet pile into the ground can also vary according to the location. We take a look at how it all works.
Refurbishing a station while it is still in use is a very complex process. Fortunately, we are not doing the job on our own. An interview with building inspector Pascal and structural engineer Alem from the North Sea Canal Area Environmental Service.
It will not be very long before The Newton is completed in Kop Zuidas. When it comes to the appearance and quality of this energy-efficient complex, it is obvious that no expense has been spared. ‘This is genuine craftsmanship: in no way is this standard housing construction.’
The Nieuw-Zuid construction consortium (Mobilis, Boskalis, Van Gelder) has officially been given the go-ahead for the next phase of the regeneration of Amsterdam Zuid station. This will involve widening and raising the height of the existing station passageway (the Minervapassage) and making modifications to the railway platforms.
In the weekends of 9-10 and 23-24 September 2023, there will be disruption for travellers wishing to access the metro or railway from Zuidplein. The station entrance will be closed for up to 10 minutes on a regular basis (every two hours). There will also be noise disruption.
During the preparations for the reconstruction of the De Nieuwe Meer interchange, we have been able to conduct soil surveys without any hindrance. But from the end of August 2023, there will be no way of avoiding it: in order to conduct further surveys and investigations, we need to remove the plants.
