From 29 January until 16 February 2024, we are closing Spoorslag, the cycle path and footpath parallel to the A10 Zuid next to the AFC Amsterdam football pitches. In this area, we are preparing to build an additional breakdown bay on the A10 Zuid.
Starting in September 2023, we will spend a year working on the entrance to the new Ravel residential district: Maurice Ravellaan, with space for pedestrians, cyclists and plenty of green areas. We are also digging an actual canal, complete with bridges to the AFC sports fields.
The cycle path in Beethovenstraat heading in the direction of Valley is again in use. We needed the cycle path in order to carry out work on cables and pipelines and prepare the two plots in the new Ravel residential district for construction. This has now been done.
In the period from Monday, 6 March until Friday, 10 March, Liander will be replacing a gas pipeline in Antonio Vivaldistraat. Vehicles travelling in a northerly direction will be diverted and the number 464 bus stop will be out of service. There will be little or no disruption for pedestrians and cyclists.
The ‘Sapiens’ creative partnership that was set to become part of Valley is coming to an end. Its initiators, Inholland University of Applied Science, Naturalis Biodiversity Center and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam), have concluded that the enterprise is not viable.

The first plants in Valley’s vertical valley were planted a year ago. So, how is all this greenery developing? We joined the landscape gardener to take a look. ‘It will still take about another four or five years before it’s all fully grown.’
For their module in ‘sustainable local development’, pupils from Vossius Gymnasium have been working on ideas for the Ravel district. They talked to experts, carried out field research and presented their ideas to a jury – who were very impressed!
In order to develop the new Ravel residential neighbourhood, we first need to reposition or remove a lot of cables and pipelines. In the period up to August 2022, Vattenfall will be repositioning the pipelines that supply heating and cooling, moving them closer towards the new Maurice Ravellaan.
Next to the southern entrance to Valley, the first piece of Maurice Ravellaan is now in place. This avenue will be the access route to the new Ravel residential neighbourhood. A crossroads has now appeared where Mahlerlaan previously formed a T-junction with Beethovenstraat.
Valley is now virtually complete. Developer EDGE and the Valley construction consortium have successfully built a multifunctional building that will give Zuidas a new look. Hundreds of construction workers have spent around three and a half years working on it. Below is a visual retrospective.
