After an 11-day closure, motorists were once more driving on a fresh layer of asphalt across the A10 Zuid on the morning of Wednesday, 3 August 2022. There is no longer any sign that these major works even happened. A complex job has been completed with pride.
Metro passengers have now had some time to get used to the changes to the platforms on the North/South metro line and are making enthusiastic use of the new crossing. So, what has changed and why?
Fans of construction have been regularly monitoring our webcam, which is showing a live feed of the major works underway at Amsterdam Zuid station. At times, there is a noticeable difference in the clothes that the workers are wearing. This is due to the nature of the ground in which we are working.
At Amsterdam Zuid station, we are raising the height of the tracks and platforms on the North/South metro line. This will take until the morning of Saturday, 23 July. So, how is work progressing? Take a look at the pictures of the first few days of work.
Starting on Saturday 16 July, Europaplein will be the terminus and starting point for the North/South line (metro line 52) for seven days. Shuttle buses will run from there to Amsterdam Zuid station, where work on the metro platforms will be carried out until 23 July.
In preparation for the work at De Nieuwe Meer interchange, we are going to move the control centre for the Schinkelbrug. This work will begin in the autumn. We hope you will be able to join us for a walk-in meeting on 21 September.
No one wants to be stuck in a traffic jam. Starting on 22 July, during the 11-day closure of the A10 Zuid in the direction of Utrecht, two emergency towing companies will be standing by in the event of breakdowns. The aim is to enable traffic to flow as smoothly as possible on the diversion routes.
While the A10 Zuid motorway is closed from 22 July 2022 onwards we are going to be vibro driving 80 sheetpiles into the ground which are needed for the Brittenpassage excavation work later on. This work may cause noise pollution. We invite you to attend the drop-in meeting on Tuesday 5 July.
ProRail is set to replace the four sets of escalators leading to the railway platforms at Amsterdam Zuid station with staircases. The aim is to provide more space for the increasing number of passengers. At the moment, passenger flow can be particularly problematic during the rush hour.
Starting on 16 July 2022, major works will be taking place at and around Amsterdam Zuid station. In addition to road and track closures, people may also experience noise nuisance in the neighbourhood. Come along to the walk-in information meeting in the WTC on 5 July 2022.
In the embankment along the A10 West, next to Luchtvaartstraat, there are some very important cables and pipelines. They are usually underground, but in order to enable the updating of the De Nieuwe Meer interchange, they need to be moved and exposed to daylight. This is happening until July 2022.
Some serious work was underway at Amsterdam Zuid station during the weekend of 4-5 June 2022. Five huge cranes hoisted the metro line 52 platform roof, weighing 40 tonnes, into its new, elevated position. View the film and photographs.
