Call for ideas on the development of the RAI site
In the years ahead, RAI Amsterdam intends to develop the area around the convention centre. The aim is to provide more space for green areas, housing and amenities. Would you like to contribute your ideas? If so, complete the (brief) online questionnaire by 8 December 2024.
Attention! A work of art! Attention!
It’s not been there very long, but it is already a familiar sight: the Kunstbrug (‘art bridge’) over the De Boelegracht. This striking pedestrian bridge invites you to think about the relationship between art and architecture. And of course, you can also use it to stroll to Buitenveldert.
Construction starts on art bridge across De Boelegracht
Work started on the art bridge across De Boelegracht in May 2023. We started by placing foundations on the south bank (the Buitenveldert side) in preparation for the real work: installing the bridge later this year.
Local park with light artwork officially opened
Thursday, 17 November saw the official opening of the newly relandscaped Europaplein-Oost. It creates a real meeting place for the neighbourhood, in a green and leafy setting that features a new play area. In the evenings, it will be brought to life by the Virtual Fountains light artwork.
Old School set for demolition
Demolition work on the building in Zuidas known as Old School is set to start in November. The building is making way for housing and a small park. Before the demolition can start, several trees need to be felled. The bats in the Old School building will also be offered a new home.

Restructuring work on Europaplein-Oost delayed
The restructuring work on Europaplein-Oost has been delayed by four months. We will also only be able to include 46 of the 55 parking spaces planned. The roots of some of the trees are too big, preventing us from paving the soil on top of them.
Visual artist creates ‘carnival mural’ to brighten up Atrium parking garage
The visual artist Cesare Botti has created an artwork on the wall of the old parking garage of Atrium, opposite hotel INNSiDE. This is a Zuidasdok initiative. Botti’s ‘Mural Carnival’ is temporary: the Brittenpassage will be located here in a few years’ time.
Turmac building: space for ‘interplay with nature’
It started with a factory in Zevenaar, where art was introduced to prevent ‘a girl having to continually endure the same view’, followed by an office building in what is now Zuidas, that aimed to ‘offer a meaningful environment for people to work in’. That’s the history of the Turmac building, now a municipal monument.
Permit granted for Virtual Fountains artwork

A permit has been granted for the Virtual Fountains artwork that will be erected in Europaplein-Oost. The work of art is part of the square’s new landscaping. The period for submitting objections runs until 16 April 2021.
Provisional design for Europaplein-Oost completed
The provisional design for Europaplein-Oost has been completed. In recent years, there have been several events where we have discussed the new layout of Europaplein-Oost with local residents. We’re interested in finding out what you think of the design.
Plans for De Boelegracht bridge presented
In the second quarter of 2021, a new pedestrian bridge is set to be built across De Boelegracht near The George. At a walk-in meeting held on 1 July 2020, the plans were presented to local residents.
