In the years ahead, RAI Amsterdam intends to develop the area around the convention centre. The aim is to provide more space for green areas, housing and amenities. Would you like to contribute your ideas? If so, complete the (brief) online questionnaire by 8 December 2024.
Making room underground for Ravel housing
On 25 November 2024, we will start work moving cables and pipelines on the east side of Beethovenstraat. This is in order to create space to build The Harmony complex with 150 rented homes. There will be diversions in place for cyclists and pedestrians.
Hybrid wooden CubeHouse rises despite lack of space
Around a year after work started on it, construction of The CubeHouse is suddenly gathering pace. Above the plinth, we recently gained an initial glimpse of what makes this building so special: its wooden structure.
Where does all the rainwater go?
As a result of climate change, extreme downpours are happening in the Netherlands increasingly often. In Zuidas, we are taking what are termed ‘climate-adaptive’ measures to combat this, including installing water-retardant green strips and water-storage systems.
Attention! A work of art! Attention!
It’s not been there very long, but it is already a familiar sight: the Kunstbrug (‘art bridge’) over the De Boelegracht. This striking pedestrian bridge invites you to think about the relationship between art and architecture. And of course, you can also use it to stroll to Buitenveldert.
Park Meadows brings people together
For more than a year now, construction has been underway of the two residential towers that will make up Park Meadows, adjacent to Beatrixpark. Not much is visible so far, but once they are completed, it should feel ‘as if they have always been there’, says architect Ben van Berkel of UNStudio.
Public space landscaping work starts in Kenniskwartier
In the second half of 2024, we are landscaping the public space around The Pulse of Amsterdam on the north side of Kenniskwartier. We will be working above ground and on underground cables and pipelines. Two construction site entrances will be set up in Mahlerlaan.
Front steps on hotel INNSiDE to conceal old foundations
Hotel INNSiDE, based in what used to be the 2Amsterdam complex, will soon have a new set of front steps alongside Eduard van Beinumstraat. This is not intended as a new hotel entrance, but as an elegant way of concealing two old parts of the foundations.
Bridge completed across a half-filled Ravelgracht
In yet another milestone for the future Ravel residential district, the magnificent access bridge to the AFC football pitches has been completed. The canal that we dug underneath it is now half full of water. We are now working on the public space around it.
A glimpse inside a bright and open Strawinskyhuis
In the space of less than three years, the Strawinskyhuis in Prinses Irenestraat has been transformed from a relatively inaccessible complex into a modern office building. The building was recently taken into use. We joined Adam Smit from ZZDP Architecten to take a look around.
Kindercampus to relocate to Ravel residential district
In the autumn of 2025, the Kindercampus Zuidas education centre will be moving into brand-new accommodation at the heart of the Ravel residential district. The pile-driving for the new building – 100 m to the west of the existing building – has already started.

On 25 April 2024, local residents were shown the design for DUET, two residential buildings with social rental housing on the former location of the British School of Amsterdam at Fred. Roeskestraat 94. There was also discussion of the public space next to it.
