Digital techniques improve design for Valley

Valley, the iconic building that is nearing completion, is an architectural tour de force. Digital computer models have made a vital contribution to that. Arup subjected the design to tests that included such factors as daylight, hours of sun and privacy.

Renovation work starts on Europaplein-Oost

The renovation work on Europaplein-Oost, opposite the RAI, will be starting on 8 November 2021. Before it can be relandscaped, some things will need to be removed. By the summer of 2022, the neighbourhood will have a new green area to enjoy.

New floors on EDGE Stadium

After a year of construction, the steel structure of EDGE Stadium – the former headquarters of Loyens & Loeff – is now as solid as a rock. This means that the finishing work on the new floors can now start, a key part of the building’s upgrade.

Sustainable offices to fill last plot in Mahler neighbourhood

The very last plot in the Mahler neighbourhood, in the heart of Zuidas, will have an office building built on it. By mid-2024, BNP Paribas Nederland, Arcadis and G&S Vastgoed will jointly have a sustainable head office on the plot: CubeHouse. The three parties are developing the building themselves.

Tripolis Park completed on the outside as work continues inside

A milestone for Tripolis Park: the exterior of the building is now more or less completed and all square metres of office accommodation have been let. The contractor is now working on the interior. In this, sustainability is a very important factor.

Making Wielingenstraat greener and safer

Major maintenance work is expected to start in Wielingenstraat in July 2022. We have already sounded out local residents and users for their views on what should be done. These have now been incorporated in a provisional design that we will be happy to tell you more about on 11 October 2021.

Dismantling of temporary courthouse

The work to dismantle the temporary courthouse in Fred. Roeskestraat has started. In 2015, the building was one of the Netherlands’ first ever circular buildings. It is now one of the first practical examples of building reuse.

New link for Zuidas loop system

Anyone looking east beyond Gustav Mahlerlaan will see a trench, 10 m wide and 5 m deep, running alongside Valley. It is a new link in the planned loop system around Zuidas. ‘We’ll be creating some lasagne here.’

Terrace Tower roof gardens now in place

This week, the trees were hoisted up onto the roof gardens on Terrace Tower. The additional greenery will make Zuidas more attractive to new businesses, boosting the City Council’s ambition to make the area more sustainable and greener.

Marigolds and pumpkins in this temporary school garden

Soon, an enormous office building will be built on the plot of land between the EMA building and Van der Valk, but for the next eighteen months the plot will be home to a school garden for local children and the whole community. Years 4 and 5 at the AICS school have created a ‘community garden’ there – and anyone who lives or works in the area is welcome.
