First floors of WTC Tower Ten complete

After almost four years of construction, the first floors of Tower Ten – the new World Trade Center tower – are now complete. We joined contractor Ballast Nedam to take a look. 'Behind that stunning façade, lies an awful lot of blood, sweat and tears.'

New 20kv loop system for northern Kenniskwartier

We are working on the electricity grid on the northern side of Gustav Mahlerlaan. In the years ahead, several new buildings will be built in this area. In order to supply them with electricity, we are installing a 20kv loop system.

Court decision on Oldschool building

The City of Amsterdam municipal council wants to build homes on the site of the Oldschool building in Gaasterlandstraat, Kop Zuidas. To make room for the new homes, the Oldschool building will need to be demolished. Bond Heemschut, a heritage association, wants the building to be preserved because of its distinctive features, and therefore applied for the status of protected monument for the building. However, the municipality decided not to designate the building as a protected monument. The Bond Heemschut then appealed against this decision but on 9 July 2021, the courts ruled that the appeal was unfounded.

From jungle to design roof garden on the ITO tower

Many of the roofs in Zuidas are not accessible to the public, which is a shame. From the street, for example, there is no way of knowing that a beautiful new garden has been created on top of the ITO tower in Mahlerplein. We were permitted to take a look around.

EDGE Stadium to be extended and renovated

EDGE Stadium, the former headquarters of Loyens & Loeff at Fred. Roeskestraat 100, is being given a comprehensive upgrade by developer EDGE. The work will take two years, with completion expected by November 2022.

INNSiDE Hotel in 2Amsterdam opens 10 December

On 10 December 2020, the INNSiDE Hotel is opening a new four-star hotel in one of the two towers of 2Amsterdam. It will be the Spanish hotel chain Meliá's first hotel in the Netherlands. General manager Sjoerd Sybesma took us for a guided tour.

Two housing construction projects in preparation

We are in the process of preparing the tenders for two new housing construction projects in Zuidas. The first of these is for the construction plot next to Beatrixpark. The other one is for the first construction plot of the new residential district Ravel. We will begin by sounding out market interest.

Conversion of former office building in Prinses Irenestraat

A former office building on Prinses Irenestraat, built in the 1970s, is to undergo renovation. It was one of the first buildings to be built in Zuidas. The current occupant, the Amsterdam International Community School (AICS), will be relocating to new premises.
