A lot of construction work is taking place between Amsterdam Zuid station and Prinses Irenestraat. In the upcoming period, there will also be works in and around the station. On 3 July 2023, we are organising a walk-in meeting at the Thomaskerk to update you on what is happening.
There are plans for housing and offices in the location where the temporary courthouse used to be. For that to happen, the zoning plan will need to be changed. We are organising an information meeting together with the Central Government Real Estate Agency (RVB).
The relocation of the Sporthallen Zuid sports complex will not be happening after all. The complex will be refurbished and extended on its current site, as the 2023 Spring Memorandum (‘Voorjaarsnota 2023’) reveals. This puts an end to the planned construction of 550 homes in that area.
Starting on 1 May 2023, we are inviting the local community to suggest ideas for the pocket park between PI59 and law firm Freshfields. On 26 April 2023, the tendering process for a new project in the future Ravel residential district was launched. Between the Valley building and De Boelelaan, there are two plots where social and mid-market rented housing, office accommodation and a supermarket are planned.
Exactly 50 years ago, on 12 April 1973, the VU Main Building opened its doors at De Boelelaan 1105. With a floor area of around nine hectares, it was one of Amsterdam’s largest and tallest buildings. There was not yet a trace of Zuidas to be seen.
For the development of CubeHouse, permission has been granted to deviate from the zoning plan currently in force. A permit was issued on 5 April 2023 and is now open for consultation for six weeks. The application for planning permission will now also be submitted swiftly.
Following a successful 18-month trial period, there’s good news: Zuidas Market is here to stay. From 9.00 until 17.00 every Thursday, Gershwinplein is the place to go for your groceries and delicatessen. Or simply to enjoy the atmosphere and have a chat.
Between PI59, formerly home to the Amsterdam International Community School (AICS), and the law firm Freshfields, we have plans to create a pocket park. We are eager to do this in consultation with the local neighbourhood. Will you contribute your ideas?

In the Thomaskerk church on 23 March, 2023, we will be presenting the draft Zuidflank Mobility Plan (‘Mobiliteitsplan Zuidflank’). A webinar will then follow on Monday, 27 March. In the plan, we explain how we intend to ensure that the area in and around Zuidas remains accessible and liveable up to 2040. Will you also be attending?
In the Ravel residential neighbourhood, the Kindercampus Zuidas has a brand-new natural playground and it’s even better than the old one. ‘In my view, a natural playground can be judged a success if there are as many places to hide as possible.’
