2022 was quite the year – what does 2023 have in store?

Above all else, 2022 was the year when funding for the Zuidasdok project was finalized. But of course, it was also a year when we just kept on building. Many new homes were completed and work continued on the major upgrade at Amsterdam Zuid station. Preparations also began on the renovation of the motorway interchange at De Nieuwe Meer.

Courthouse art provides comfort, distraction and consolation

The stunning new courthouse building is home to an extensive art collection that is also accessible to the public. It serves a very special purpose. ‘The art has a comforting effect in a place where very serious things happen.’

Local park with light artwork officially opened

Thursday, 17 November saw the official opening of the newly relandscaped Europaplein-Oost. It creates a real meeting place for the neighbourhood, in a green and leafy setting that features a new play area. In the evenings, it will be brought to life by the Virtual Fountains light artwork.

The relandscaping of Europaplein-Oost has now been completed. The project has had its fair share of setbacks: firstly, in reaching agreement with local residents and then dealing with issues involving the design and construction/landscaping. But the result is worth the wait. Be sure not to miss the official opening on Thursday, 17 November 2022.

Zoning plan approved for museum

Plans for a museum of contemporary art in the former courthouse building in Parnassusweg are now a significant step closer. The lease agreement for the building is expected to be signed soon.

Open-air concert in Mahlerplein proves an autumnal success

Five streets and squares in the ‘Kenniskwartier’ (Innovation District, sometimes referred to as Knowledge Quarter) are being given the names of female composers. The open-air concert held on 15 September 2022 paid tribute to some of them. Despite the autumn weather, there was plenty to enjoy in Mahlerplein.

Streets of the World moves to Van Beinumstraat

The Streets of the World exhibition has been moved from Arnold Schönberglaan to Eduard van Beinumstraat, next to Zuidplein. As a result, this exhibition, featuring pictures of all 195 of the world’s capital cities, now has a great location within Zuidas. Come and see for yourself!

Experience Open Monuments Day in Zuidas

On 10 and 11 September 2022, thousands of monuments across the Netherlands will be opening their doors on Open Monuments Day (Open Monumentendag). In Zuidas, you can visit the monumental courthouse, the Burgerweeshuis (a former orphanage) or the Thomaskerk Church. The Zuidas Botanical Garden is also participating.
