Progress made on plans for pocket park next to PI59

At the start of 2023, people in the Prinses Irenebuurt area had an opportunity in two rounds of digital consultation to express their views about the future use of the PI59 parking deck and the street next to it. Should it be used for plants and flowers, a boules court or a basketball field?

Starting on 1 May 2023, we are inviting the local community to suggest ideas for the pocket park between PI59 and law firm Freshfields. During the previous consultations in March, people’s preferences focused on green areas, sport and play. We now want to explore this in more detail. Will you contribute again, by swiping on the app?

Between PI59, formerly home to the Amsterdam International Community School (AICS), and the law firm Freshfields, we have plans to create a pocket park. We are eager to do this in consultation with the local neighbourhood. Will you contribute your ideas?

2022 was quite the year – what does 2023 have in store?

Above all else, 2022 was the year when funding for the Zuidasdok project was finalized. But of course, it was also a year when we just kept on building. Many new homes were completed and work continued on the major upgrade at Amsterdam Zuid station. Preparations also began on the renovation of the motorway interchange at De Nieuwe Meer.

Streets of the World moves to Van Beinumstraat

The Streets of the World exhibition has been moved from Arnold Schönberglaan to Eduard van Beinumstraat, next to Zuidplein. As a result, this exhibition, featuring pictures of all 195 of the world’s capital cities, now has a great location within Zuidas. Come and see for yourself!

Experience Open Monuments Day in Zuidas

On 10 and 11 September 2022, thousands of monuments across the Netherlands will be opening their doors on Open Monuments Day (Open Monumentendag). In Zuidas, you can visit the monumental courthouse, the Burgerweeshuis (a former orphanage) or the Thomaskerk Church. The Zuidas Botanical Garden is also participating.

Pleasant area around WTC’s Tower Ten

WTC’s Tower Ten has now reached such an advanced stage that the contractor is set to hand back the public space to the City of Amsterdam in May. So, what plans do we have for it? We will be adding a range of planting, widening the cycle path and making it an attractive place in which to spend time. We present an initial impression below.

Plans for housing on Sporthallen Zuid site pushed back

The plans for the construction of 500 to 600 homes on the current site of the Sporthallen Zuid sports complex have been modified. This is because of a change in the schedule for the new accommodation for the Sporthallen Zuid.

Rainbow staircase to Zuidplein unveiled

The rainbow staircase, connecting Zuidplein and Strawinskylaan to each other, was officially unveiled on 31 March 2021. This means that Zuidas has another landmark, one that aims to boost the visibility and acceptance of the LGBTIQ+ community.

Sporthallen Zuid makes way for 550 homes

Zuidas is set to welcome yet another housing development. In this case, it will be 550 new homes on the current site of the Sporthallen Zuid sports complex. Moving this elsewhere will create space for a new neighbourhood, featuring plenty of green areas and right next to sports and waterside amenities and schools.

Tripolis receives a reclining skyscraper

The special shapes of Tripolis are still standing, but nonetheless everything looks different compared to 5 months ago. The demolition works have almost been completed and G&S Bouw is now working on the foundation of the ‘landscraper’, a reclining skyscraper.
