On 15 April 2022, the Dutch House of Representatives and Amsterdam city council were notified of an important step in the renovation of Amsterdam Zuid railway station: the awarding of the contract for phase 1 of the station renovation.
It has taken a while, but the plan for the new Art Bridge (‘De Kunstbrug’) across De Boelegracht is now open for consultation. A briefing for local residents about the design was held on 12 April 2022. Interested parties now have until 14 May 2022 to submit their opinions.
The Conservatorium van Amsterdam music academy will not be setting up an annex in the monumental buildings known as Kapel & Convict in Beatrixpark after all. Prices on the construction and energy markets have increased so explosively that the financial risks are too great.
The central section of De Boelelaan, between Beethovenstraat and Parnassusweg, is being redeveloped, adding a new green section and bringing changes to the traffic situation. A meeting about it is being held on Tuesday, 12 April 2022, both in person (fully subscribed) and online.
The former main building of the Amsterdam British School in Fred. Roeskestraat is being demolished. The school moved to new accommodation in Havenstraat last year. The location will now be used for social housing.
Construction work started on Stepstone on 1 April 2022. Boasting 216 rental apartments for first-timers, this is the largest social housing project so far in Zuidas. In the same neighbourhood, Kenniskwartier (Knowledge District), some 2,700 homes are being built in the years ahead.
The Amsterdam City Executive has approved the development plan for the area to the east of The Edge. This makes it possible to build housing, together with amenities and offices, set in a calm and green courtyard garden.
In the course of 2022, maintenance work will be carried out next to the RAI Exhibition Centre in order to make the area greener and safer. Following consultations with residents, parts of the design of Wielingenstraat and the Boerenwetering canal bank have been improved. The schedule has been adjusted accordingly.
On Saturday, 26 March 2022, 19 tall buildings across Amsterdam will be opening their doors to anyone interested in visiting them. Of course, Zuidas will be participating fully in this tenth edition of Open Tower Day.
The Holiday Inn hotel located at 2 De Boelelaan will become a reception centre for Ukrainian refugees on Wednesday 16 March 2022. It can accommodate 280 people. The RAI conference centre is acting as a registration centre, from which refugees will be directed to accommodation.
One of the first projects in the new residential neighbourhood of Ravel has now been announced: Tic-Tac-Toe. The project will include 75 family homes of an average of 80 square metres in the medium-priced rental segment. Construction will begin in early 2024 and is expected to be completed in 2025.
‘Sapiens’ is coming to Valley. According to the initiators of the project – Hogeschool Inholland, Naturalis Biodiversity Centre and VU University Amsterdam – Sapiens will be a 'creative centre for the Anthropocene'. A museum, workshop and debate centre all rolled into one.
