City Executive opts for new approach to city development

The City of Amsterdam Executive is opting for a new approach to city development. Densification will feature prominently in it, including in Zuidas. This is revealed in the development strategy ‘Building neighbourhoods for the future’ (‘Bouwen aan buurten van de Toekomst’) that is based on diversity in the city.

Playground equipment in Beatrixpark to be removed

Between 19 and 23 February 2024, we will be removing the Carve playground equipment from Beatrixpark. It was becoming less of a source of fun and enjoyment and an increasing cause of nuisance. Zuid city district is now considering what will replace it. You are welcome to contribute any ideas you may have.

Planned 24-hour shelter in Kop Zuidas scrapped

Plans for Kop Zuidas to have a residential care centre for former homeless people on plot K will not go ahead. For the centre to be affordable, at least 30 housing units were needed. There is not sufficient space for that. The tender procedure for the plot will be in the second quarter of 2024.

2023: the year of shifting and digging

The broad contours of the second passageway at Amsterdam Zuid station became visible. The existing passageway was also renovated. Numerous construction projects were completed. We also put together a great summer party. All of that – and much more – was 2023 in Zuidas.

Emergency department entrance in Amstelveenseweg made safer

In the weekend of 16 and 17 December 2023, we made modifications to the entrance to the emergency department of Amsterdam UMC, location VUmc. The entrance is now wider and easier to navigate, making it much safer, especially for cyclists and pedestrians.

28-11 to 8-12: tram track maintenance in Parnassusweg

From 28 November until 8 December 2023, the GVB will be carrying out maintenance work on the tram track in Parnassusweg. GVB will be working at night on weekdays and night and day during the weekend from 1 to 4 December. Pedestrians, cyclists and car traffic will experience disruption.

VU Amsterdam's campus square undergoes metamorphosis

From a patchwork of paving to a green oasis. The campus square at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) is currently undergoing a metamorphosis, which is set to make it the heart of the campus once again. ‘We were assigned the job of making the square more attractive. That’s not too difficult.’

Night-time traffic disruption on the A10 In the direction of the A4 Schiphol

In the night of Thursday, 23 and Friday, 24 November, two carriageways will be closed on the A10 In the direction of A4 Schiphol. No diversion will be necessary. During the works, traffic will use a single carriageway.

Safe and green Wielingenstraat completed

On Friday, 20 November work was completed on a safer and greener Wielingenstraat. All the street paving has been replaced and there is a separate cycle path on both sides. There is also a wide, green central reservation.

Work resumes on The Art Bridge across De Boelegracht

Sharp-eyed locals will have already spotted it: after some delay, work on The Art Bridge (‘De Kunstbrug’) across De Boelegracht has resumed. Additional investigations while preparing the foundations led to some delay, postponing the completion date until May 2024.
