In the future, the former courthouse in Parnassusweg will be home to a museum. The contractor will begin the initial works on it this month: stripping the interior in the part of the building that has protected monument status.
On the site of the former temporary courthouse at Fred. Roeskestraat 55, there are plans to develop a building with offices and housing. The draft zoning plan for this development is now open for consultation until 18 October 2023. A walk-in evening has been scheduled for 21 September.
There are plans for housing and offices in the location where the temporary courthouse used to be. For that to happen, the zoning plan will need to be changed. We are organising an information meeting together with the Central Government Real Estate Agency (RVB).
The stunning new courthouse building is home to an extensive art collection that is also accessible to the public. It serves a very special purpose. ‘The art has a comforting effect in a place where very serious things happen.’

The former courthouse in Parnassusweg will soon be home to a museum of modern art. Until then, the building is being put to good use by artists. Dorette Evers has even transformed the two raised beds in front of the building into a paint garden.
Now that the inside of the temporary courthouse has been dismantled, the contractor is starting to take apart the outside. It is a job that requires the utmost precision, because the building is soon to be reassembled piece-by-piece in Enschede.
The establishment of a museum of modern art in the former courthouse building in Parnassusweg will require changes to the zoning plan. An application has now also been submitted for an environmental permit. You can find out more on 15 February 2022.
The work to dismantle the temporary courthouse in Fred. Roeskestraat has started. In 2015, the building was one of the Netherlands’ first ever circular buildings. It is now one of the first practical examples of building reuse.
In Parnassusweg, the development of the museum for contemporary art in the former courthouse building (part of which has protected monument status) is now a step closer. The City Council voted to purchase the building on 15 September 2021.
There are plans for a new art gallery in the old court house on Parnassusweg, so Zuidas could soon be home to another cultural hotspot.
As we have reported before, there are plans to build homes and offices on the site where the temporary court building currently stands. Those plans have now been modified in order to achieve the best possible quality for future residents. The new design chosen features a base building with two towers.
