VU Amsterdam's campus square undergoes metamorphosis

From a patchwork of paving to a green oasis. The campus square at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) is currently undergoing a metamorphosis, which is set to make it the heart of the campus once again. ‘We were assigned the job of making the square more attractive. That’s not too difficult.’

Work resumes on The Art Bridge across De Boelegracht

Sharp-eyed locals will have already spotted it: after some delay, work on The Art Bridge (‘De Kunstbrug’) across De Boelegracht has resumed. Additional investigations while preparing the foundations led to some delay, postponing the completion date until May 2024.

20 November: sheet pile works in Van Beinumstraat

Starting on Monday, 20 November, we will be using vibration to insert sheet piles into the ground in Eduard van Beinumstraat. This is where we are working to clear the area underground to enable the construction of the northern motorway tunnel. There may be disruption caused by noise and vibration.

Zuidas Sustainability Award presented

In a lively canteen at AFC football club, the Zuidas Sustainability Award was presented for the second time on 9 November 2023. A panel of expert judges selected winners across various different themes. Around a thousand people also voted for the Public Award.

Works in old courthouse for upcoming museum

In the future, the former courthouse in Parnassusweg will be home to a museum. The contractor will begin the initial works on it this month: stripping the interior in the part of the building that has protected monument status.

Anti-graffiti tests for Amsterdam Zuid station

We have conducted tests to identify which coating and which removal product will be most effective in combating graffiti at the new Amsterdam Zuid station. We have found a product that most effectively meets our requirements.

15 November: meeting on regeneration of Amstel interchange

On 15 November 2023, we are organising two walk-in meetings at the Zuid City Office for residents, businesses and others stakeholders interested in the future regeneration of the Amstel interchange by Zuidasdok. You are warmly welcome to attend.

Two nights of lifting work in Parnassusweg

In the two nights from Monday 30 October to Wednesday, 1 November, we will be working on the metro viaduct above Parnassusweg. We are doing this at night for safety reasons.

Sheet piling work in Van Beinumstraat postponed

Today was supposed to see the start of work installing sheet piling into the ground in Eduard van Beinumstraat. However, these works have now been postponed until further notice as a result of a setback.

Dig-dig-dig for extra station passageway

After years of construction away from public view, the digging has started for the passenger tunnel at Amsterdam Zuid station: the Brittenpassage. We are removing 50,000 cubic metres of sand from underneath the A10, metro and railway tracks. And the site is spectacular to behold.
