Where in Zuidas
In 2019, the European Medicines Agency will move its operations from London to Amsterdam as a result of the British decision to leave the European Union (Brexit). The EMA building in the Zuidas business district will be finished in November 2019, according to the work schedule.
The Environmental Agency has granted the contractor (EMA Construction Consortium) permission, in exceptional circumstances, to extend construction work outside normal working hours. According to the Environmental Agency, the reason for this decision is the ‘social interest’ in sticking to the deadline for completion.
To achieve this deadline, the contractor (EMA Construction Consortium) will work continuously, 24 hours a day, from 13 August until the end of September 2018. Concrete will be poured during this period. During the night shift, the lights illuminating the construction site will be kept on, and materials such as reinforcing bars and concrete will be delivered via the Spoorslag: the temporary access road that runs parallel to the A10.
In the interest of safety at the construction site, lorries use reversing alarms that make beeping noises. The EMA Construction Consortium does not expect the construction activities to cause significant inconvenience outside the construction site.
