FOZ

Mahler4 is the first subzone of Zuidas to be completed. According to the masterplan by architects Cie., this new part of the city between Berlage’s Oud-Zuid and Van Eesteren’s post-war development in Buitenveldert, will form an urban unity, with a mixture of functions, including housing, employment, retail and recreation. Almost all of the buildings in Mahler4 have been completed in recent years; FOZ with the adjoining UN Studio office building has been the last to be built.

The choice of windows in the building was inspired by the characteristic light seen in the paintings of Vermeer. The use of two different strips of glass combined with a ceiling height of 2.8 m enables an extraordinary amount of light to enter. The upper strip allows a large amount of daylight to penetrate deep into the office building, while the lower strip provides views.
