Miles Building

The Miles Building has introduced a different type of building to this part of Zuidas, where large-scale blocks have been organised in a grid structure. With its courtyard, the Miles Building has an intimate character in this urban design context.

Around the courtyard, the building has been modelled to align with both the neighbouring high-rise building and the adjacent De Boelegracht. Oriented in line with the sun and the long line of sight across De Boelegracht, the higher sections of the building take maximum advantage of their position. A pond accentuates the relationship with water and serves as a hinge, connecting the courtyard and canal.

The Miles Building has been built to accommodate several types of properties. They include luxury two-floor lofts with mezzanines and sliding doors hanging above the pond. At ground level, the design not only features a split-level three-storey commercial area but also dual-aspect townhouses that connect the street with the courtyard. The black masonry accentuates the volume of the building, making this square-shaped residential block of varying heights into a real sculpture.
