- Start of tender process for OBA NEXT, bicycle parking facility and offices The plans for OBA NEXT combine three big ambitions – a public library for the future, a public space at the heart of Zuidas that will contribute to cultural goals and a place where all residents of Amsterdam can improve their skills (including their digital skills). This is the essence of what we are asking participating parties to come up with in their development plans for Zuidas. Registrations opened on 15 July 2021.
- Work on Europaplein tramlines From Saturday, 17 July until Sunday, 15 August, GVB is replacing the track, the underlying concrete and the asphalt paving on the tramlines in Europaboulevard next to RAI Station and the A10 intersection. The quality of the tracks is no longer sufficient to ensure a safe and comfortable service to continue. The work is expected to cause some traffic disruption.
- Come along and test the tiles Starting now, Amsterdam Zuid station has become a test site for the natural stone tiles that will be used in the future station. We are testing different types of grey natural stone to see how they stand up to wear and usage over the next year.
- Kop Zuidas construction and the need for green public space In Kop Zuidas, buildings are being erected one after another. So, what can we expect the public space to look like in the near future? Is there any focus on the need for green areas in the neighbourhood? We have received questions about this from residents. The answer is this: green areas are particularly important, precisely because of all the building work.
- Zoning plan makes new residential neighbourhood possible Great news for Zuidas and the city: on 8 July 2021, the City Council approved the zoning plan for the Zuidas – Ravel residential neighbourhood. The plan will enable the development of a new, leafy family neighbourhood in Ravel, with 1,350 homes, 750 of which will be suitable for families.
- Changes made to plans for area around temporary court building As we have reported before, there are plans to build homes and offices on the site where the temporary court building currently stands. Those plans have now been modified in order to achieve the best possible quality for future residents. The new design chosen features a base building with two towers.
- Visual artist creates ‘carnival mural’ to brighten up Atrium parking garage The visual artist Cesare Botti has created an artwork on the wall of the old parking garage of Atrium, opposite hotel INNSiDE. This is a Zuidasdok initiative. Botti’s ‘Mural Carnival’ is temporary: the Brittenpassage will be located here in a few years’ time.
- Kindercampus ‘community hub in the new Ravel neighbourhood’ In 2024, the Kindercampus Zuidas childcare centre is moving to a brand-new building in the new Ravel residential neighbourhood. As a result, the primary school and childcare facility is set to take on a real community function. ‘We still want to have a place where we can continue to build huts.’
- Amsterdam Zuidas Information Centre reopens The doors have been closed for months, but it’s finally happened. The Amsterdam Zuidas Information Centre has reopened: from 10:00 and 16:00 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Of course, the current restrictions still apply.
- New schedule announced for Zuidasdok The major Zuidasdok project now has a new schedule. The original plan was for a single contractor to work on all of it. The project has now been divided into parts, some of which will be happening simultaneously. So, what can you expect?
