The very final roof section is needed in order to get the metro tracks at Amsterdam Zuid station to the right height. We are replacing part of the roof of the existing station passageway at Amsterdam Zuid (Minervapassage) because, in the future, it will be twice as high and more than three times as wide as it currently is. On 29 July 2025, we will be pushing the concrete colossus around 16 m to the south, underneath the most southerly metro track (serving line 50 in the direction of Gein and line 51 in the direction of Amsterdam Central Station). But this has also involved a lot of advance preparation. For example, we have removed the metro track and the southern glass dome, built a new support in the passenger tunnel and inserted foundation piles and sheet piling into the ground. You can see how we did that in the video below.

Live construction spectacle

The concrete colossus measuring 100 m long and 4 m wide is currently sitting waiting between the metro tracks at Amsterdam Zuid station. From 11.00 and 13.00 on Tuesday, 29 July, we will be pushing it into its permanent position and you can be there to watch it. We are organising four 45-minute guided tours, in which you will be briefed by an expert at our Information Centre and watch the spectacle live from the platform. There are still a few places available, so register now.

Please note: disruption at Amsterdam Zuid station until 25 August
Because of the works, finding your way around Amsterdam Zuid station will still be difficult until 25 August 2025. In order to renovate the roof, we are closing the passenger tunnel again on Wednesday, 30 July (from 05.30 until 20.00) and on Friday, 1 August and Saturday, 2 August (all day). As a result, changing between train and metro will take around 10 minutes longer. There are also changes to the railway and metro schedules. Read the updates about the expected disruption here.
