Amsterdam Zuidas is the working name of two organisations: Zuidas and Zuidasdok. Zuidas is a department of the municipality of Amsterdam. Zuidasdok is a project organization of Rijkswaterstaat, ProRail and the municipality of Amsterdam. Together we act under the name of Amsterdam Zuidas. In close cooperation we are building the Zuidas urban district and an accessible Zuidas and northern Randstad.
The Zuidas municipal organisation is responsible for developing the Zuidas area. Its brief from the Amsterdam City Council is to develop a mixed city district with a unique character. This brief was approved in the Zuidas Vision 2016 (in Dutch).
Thanks to its strategic location, close to Schiphol and Amsterdam city centre, the area is attractive to Dutch and international businesses and institutions. Increasing numbers of people are taking up residence here. These developments are helping to improve the level of facilities. Zuidas is becoming increasingly vibrant. Zuidas is nowhere near finished – quite the contrary. There’s plenty of construction to come in the years ahead.
What’s more, we started the most ambitious building operation in the area’s history: Zuidasdok. This infrastructure project at the heart of Zuidas will bring the A10 motorway underground and widen the highway from four to six lanes. Above ground, there will be a completely new Amsterdam Zuid station, a terminal for all of the public transport and a completely re-landscaped green station area.
