From Monday 18 May until Sunday 9 August 2026, we will be working on the De Boelelaan, to improve the road, cycle paths and tram track. The work will be carried out in phases:
18 May – 3 July:
- One lane will be closed for cars, scooters and motor bikes in both directions on De Boelelaan-West. Please allow for additional travel time.
8 June – 3 July:
- The crossing for pedestrians and cyclists in front of the VU will be closed. You can cross the road at the intersection with Gustav Mahlerlaan of Parnassuweg instead.
4 July – 19 July:
- The pedestrian crossing on west side (the side of the VU) of the De Boelelaan/Parnassusweg intersection will be out of use. Cyclists will not be able to use the intersection at all, except on the east side (at Groningerstraat).
- Tramline 24 will not run via De Boelelaan. Buses in both directions will stop at temporary bus stops at De Boelelaan. Consult the websites of GVB and Connexxion to find the most up-to-date travel advice.
- One lane will be closed to cars, scooters and motor bikes in both directions on De Boelelaan-West. Please allow for additional travel time.
20 July – 9 August:
- De Boelelaan will be closed completely for cars, scooters and motor bikes. Traffic will be diverted and road signs will be placed to guide you along the diversion route.
- The pedestrian crossing on the west side of the intersection between De Boelelaan and Parnassusweg (the side of the VU) will not be in use. Cyclists will not be able to use the intersection at all, except on the east side, at Groningerstraat.
Construction activities
- Tram track: we will lay asphalt on the central reserve between the tram tracks in front of the Free University (VU) building, so that it can also be used as a bus lane in the future. This will aid the smooth flow of traffic.
- Cycle paths: The cycle paths around the intersection Parnassusweg/Buitenveldertselaan will be upgraded. It will become easier and safer to cross the road.
