Anyone who regularly travels to and from Amsterdam Zuid station will not have failed to notice that there are lots of bikes parked all over the place around the station. This is impeding access and can hardly be described as safe. Since we have noticed that far from everyone is making use of the three underground (and free) bicycle parks near the station, we have decided to provide another list of them for you.
Mahlerplein, Zuidplein and Strawinskylaan bicycle parks
Around Amsterdam Zuid station, you can park your bike in one of the three supervised bicycle parks. You can choose between Strawinskylaan (3,750 spaces), Mahlerplein (3,200 spaces) and Zuidplein (1,400) bicycle parks, which can be accessed using your personal public transport chip card. The bicycle parks in Strawinskylaan and Mahlerplein always have space available. Bicycle parking is free for the first 24 hours. After that, you pay € 1.35 per day. Bicycles can be parked here for no more than 14 consecutive days. Starting from €80 per year, there is also the option of parking your bike for an unlimited period. You can find more information on the NS website.
Bike tag and loan pass
The so-called bike tag (fietstag) allows you to check in and out of the bicycle park completely automatically. This is a sticker with a tag that is linked to your public transport chip card and placed on the frame of your bike. You can purchase the tag from a member of bicycle park staff for €2.50. You can only apply for a bike tag if you have a public transport chip card. If you have no card, you can ask a member of bicycle park staff for a loan pass (leenpas). This enables you to check in and out. After checking out, you return the loan pass to a member of staff.
Extra spaces for bikes
As the number of people using Amsterdam Zuid station continues to increase, we are building three new bicycle parks in the years ahead. The Brittenpassage, Amsterdam Zuid station’s second passenger tunnel currently under construction, will have 2,000 new bicycle spaces when it opens. A further 600 spaces will be added later. The south side of this new station passageway will have an underground bicycle park with 2,400 spaces, and the existing passenger tunnel (Minervapassage) will ultimately have an additional 1,600 spaces. After the station regeneration, there will be a total of 15,000 parking spaces for bikes.
