The land is being prepared for construction in the period up to 20 December 2024. This means that the area is being made suitable for later development. Paving and cycle racks will be removed from the Innovation Center plot as well as any cables and pipelines that are still in the ground. Some 44 trees will also be cut down. A tree-felling permit has been issued for this purpose. The works will have only minimal impact on the local area.

Part of VU Campus

The new Innovation Center is being built on the VU Campus, on the corner where Gustav Mahlerlaan and De Boelelaan intersect and next to the SC Buitenveldert football pitches. The building will provide accommodation for university-related businesses, including start-ups, scale-ups and external companies in the field of Life Sciences, Medtech and AI. The start-ups and scale-ups currently located in the VU Mathematics and Physics building, as well as the VU Demonstrator Lab, will have a prominent position in the building. Construction is scheduled to start in the spring of 2025 with completion expected in mid-2027.
