What would winter be without skating? It just wouldn’t be the same, according to resident Ruth Jansen. This is why she decided to organise a skating rink especially for children, thanks to a contribution from the Zuid city district Resident Initiatives subsidy scheme. The compact skating rink measuring 10 x 10 metres will be located on George Gershwinplein in the De Boelegracht. ‘Children are welcome to come along and enjoy some skating’, says Jansen. ‘It’s also great opportunity for the community to come together to get to know each other little better.’

Even more to enjoy

But the fun doesn’t stop at skating. The kids can show their creative side in a colouring competition and there will be a tombola with some great prizes. To warm things up, hot chocolate will be served in exchange for deposit drink cans. Meanwhile, parents can enjoy a tasty mulled wine at one of the hospitality outlets on the square.

Also something serious

There will also be room for more serious issues. Jansen: ‘A good friend of mine has pulmonary hypertension, a heart and lung condition. We aim to bring this to public attention on what we hope will be a beautiful day.’ Specialists from AUMC, location Vumc will also be on hand to talk about this serious, rare condition.
