On the Mahler 1 construction site and in the courtyard garden of the ABN AMRO complex, there are nine trees. Seven of these can be moved. These trees are being moved temporarily to a ‘tree campsite’. They will be cared for there, until work on Mahler 1 has been completed. They will then return and be given a new position in the redevelopment. Unfortunately, there are two trees that cannot be relocated. Experts from Terra Nostra, an agency specialising in trees and soil, investigated this by means of a so-called Tree Effect Analysis. Terra Nostra is compiling a compensation plan outlining how and where these two trees will later be replaced.

Tree-felling permit

The City of Amsterdam has issued a tree-felling permit for the relocation and felling of the trees. The trees will be moved or cut down in the period from 9 to 19 April 2025. This work will have only minimal impact on the local area, because it will be done behind construction hoardings or in the ABN AMRO courtyard garden.

Inspection for nests

Before the works, an inspection will be conducted by Ecofect, an environmental consultancy, to check if there are any nests in the trees. If there are, the trees will not be cut down or moved until the nests are no longer in use.
