The brand-new Maurice Ravellaan, the avenue that forms the entrance to the new Ravel residential district currently under development, was opened at the start of this year. Totalling 40 m in length and leading off Gustav Mahlerlaan, the avenue forms the access road to Goed Genoeg Sports Park (where AFC play). On the south side of the street, a long section of construction hoardings separates the avenue from the low-traffic Ravel residential district that is being developed. Between 12 and 18 June, nine artists from the Netherlands and abroad will decorate the bare construction hoardings with nine different murals on wooden panels. You can come and take a look as they do that at any time during that week or even take part in the (free) Street Art guided tour that we are organising.
Building connections
The nine artists are part of the Amsterdam art collective STRAAT and are all developing their own themes for the murals. ‘The overarching theme is Building Connections and that’s also the name of the project’, says Mat Cahill from STRAAT Agency. ‘In it, we aim to show that Zuidas is so much more than just a collection of buildings. There are also people who live here, all with their own individual stories. With our art, we’re attempting to bring the connection between the people and their stories to life.’

Ravel residential district
In the future Ravel residential district, we are building 1,350 homes in the years ahead, mainly for families. Of these homes, 40% will be social rented, another 40% mid-market rented and 20% owner-occupied properties. The neighbourhood is being developed in the area between the AFC football pitches and De Boelelaan. On the south side, alongside De Boelegracht, work started in March 2024 on the construction of the new Kindercampus Zuidas, and in June 2024 on the Ravelly housing block, which will include 75 social rented homes.
Come to the Ravel viewing point
Would you like to discover more about the planned Ravel residential district (which could potentially be your future home)? This is also possible during FutureFest (Toekomsttiendaagse). From a special viewing point behind the AFC pitches and Valley, you will see the construction projects already in progress and, with the help of 3D images, will gain an impression of what the neighbourhood will ultimately look like. Register now for the viewing point.
