The concrete colossus measuring 100 m long and 4 m wide is currently sitting waiting between the metro tracks at Amsterdam Zuid station. Between 11.00 and 13.00 on Tuesday, 29 July, we will be moving it around 16 m to the south reaching just underneath the most southerly metro track that serves lines 50 (Gein) and 51 (Amsterdam Central Station). Of course, you can also watch the spectacle live on our webcams. But fans of construction who are able to come to the station can get their fill during one of four 45-minute guided tours accompanied by an expert.

Live construction spectacle

We will meet at the Zuidas-Zuidasdok Information Centre 15 minutes before each group departs (20 people per group). Next to our life-size model, we will brief you on the regeneration of Amsterdam Zuid station. Our experts will then accompany you to the metro platform to watch this extraordinary process.

  • Departure times: 10.30 (group 1), 11.00 (group 2), 11.30 (group 3), 12.00 (group 4).
  • You are welcome to join us from 15 minutes in advance at the Zuidas-Zuidasdok Information Centre, World Trade Center, Tower 5 Central Foyer.
  • The guided tour will take around 45 minutes.
  • You can register for it here.
The metro deck is already waiting between the tracks

Shifting process may happen sooner, but without members of the public
If we make faster progress than expected, the metro deck may be moved into position earlier in the day, at around 03.00 during the previous night. If that happens, there will be no members of the public present and we will cancel the visitor event. People who have registered will be notified as quickly as possible, and at least one day before the event.

Station passageway expansion

This is the very last roof section needed to get the metro tracks at the right height in order to make it possible for us to expand the existing station passageway at Amsterdam Zuid station (Minervapassage). In the future, it will be twice as high and over three times as wide as it currently is. We regularly organise live events focusing on all of the work at the station, as we did last June when the railway platform roofs were lifted into place.

This time, we will again be using the yellow steel ‘runner’
