The heat in the city is sweltering, including in Zuidas. The people of Amsterdam are looking to cool down in large numbers, on and alongside the water. But actually swimming in it is not to be recommended in many places. The quality of the water is not good enough. In Zuidas at the moment, only the water in the Nieuwe Meer is of ‘outstanding quality’ and therefore suitable for swimming. View the current situation at the Nieuwe Meer.

Quality improvements

We have been working to improve the quality of the water in Zuidas for some time now. We monitor it every year and the results show that although there are improvements, the quality is not yet up to standard. Some time ago, we put out aquatic plants in De Boelegracht. In the future, when the Ravel residential district takes shape, there will also be nature-friendly banks here. These kind of changes help to make the water cleaner.

City pass? Swim for free

From 12 to 14 August, the heat plan is in force in Amsterdam. During this period, residents who have a Stadspas (city pass) can swim in one of six Amsterdam swimming pools free of charge, including De Mirandabad. More information
