Amsterdam’s oldest cemetery

The Roman Catholic Cemetery R.K. Begraafplaats Buitenveldert, which has listed monument status, celebrates its 190th anniversary this year, making it Amsterdam’s oldest cemetery. In the course of all those years, it is mainly the surroundings that have changed: the cemetery is now in a beautiful, tranquil place in Zuidas. Between 13.00 and 17.00 on 11 October, you are welcome to come along to listen to a lecture by historian Wim Cappers and enjoy a guided tour. Entrance is free of charge; there is no need to register. More information

Behind the scenes with the ‘backing vocals’

Tip for the evening programme: take a trip to the VU Griffioen theatre for a performance by the backing vocal trio ‘Velvet Vox’ at 20.00. It’s all about the people who provide the backing vocals at the best venues, performing before packed auditoria in the grandest productions, but who remain unknown. It provides a hilarious, moving and surprising insight into their lives. Featuring a lot of close harmony. More information

New museum under development

In the former courthouse in Parnassusweg, the Hartwig Foundation is in the process of developing a new museum of modern art. This is a huge honour for the city and of course for Zuidas. Even now, all kinds of things are happening in what will ultimately be the Hartwig Museum. You can visit it between 14.00 and 22.00 on 11 October. More information
