Construction work on the new accommodation for the Kindercampus Zuidas has taken around 18 months. Students and staff from the primary school and childcare centre were able to monitor that process live as it happened: the new accommodation was being built right next to the existing building. The school had started to outgrow the current premises – parts of the corridor had already been converted into new classrooms and temporary units installed outside. The big move had therefore been eagerly awaited, and the time for it has finally now arrived. During the Christmas holiday, Kindercampus Zuidas will vacate its old building and move into the new one.

Dismantling

Originally, the existing building – home to the school for more than 11 years – was designed and built as temporary accommodation. The ultimate plan is to dismantle the building and reuse the components or even rebuild it somewhere completely different. But that is still in the future. This is why, when the Kindercampus Zuidas vacates the building, the Willemsparkschool will be temporarily moving into it. The listed monument where this primary school is based in Willem Witsenstraat in Amsterdam Zuid is undergoing renovation, and the ‘old’ Kindercampus provides the perfect solution.

Housing and natural playground

The Willemsparkschool will remain in the current Kindercampus Zuidas building for around a year. We will then continue developing this plot, which will ultimately be used for housing. The popular natural playground that the Kindercampus Zuidas had installed two years ago (the previous one had to be moved to enable the new building to be built) will remain in use. In addition, the new accommodation for the Kindercampus Zuidas also features a green rooftop garden.

Ravel
The new Kindercampus Zuidas is the first building to be completed in the new low-traffic Ravel residential district. The neighbourhood is being developed in the area between the AFC football pitches and De Boelelaan. In the years ahead, we are building 1,350 homes here, mainly for families. Of these homes, 40% will be social rented, another 40% mid-market rented and 20% owner-occupied properties.
