You may not realise it as you pass through, but beneath the road surface of the Beethovenstraat there are pipes at several locations that connect the water on either side of the street. One of these lies just south of the railway tracks and the A10 Zuid. Here, a culvert connects the pond next to the former ABN AMRO building with the water alongside residential tower Valley on the other side of the Beethovenstraat.
Culvert to make way for tunnel
The existing culvert is in the way of the construction of the A10 tunnel and therefore needs to be removed. This summer, we will replace it with a new culvert a few dozen metres further along. For motorists, this will result in diversions – more information will follow at a later stage.
Relocation to Parnassusweg
Five plane trees are located at the new location. Two of these were previously relocated during the construction of Valley. Tree specialists expect that these trees, in particular, have a good chance of being successfully transplanted again. On the evening and night of Tuesday, 7 April, these two trees will therefore be removed and replanted along the Parnassusweg. The remaining three trees cannot be preserved due to the works. Zuidasdok has obtained a felling permit for these trees and removal will take place on the evening and night of Thursday, 9 April.
Evening and night works
To minimise disruption to traffic, works on the Beethovenstraat will start at 22.00 on both Tuesday, 7 April and Thursday, 9 April. From 00.30 until no later than 05.30, work will take place on the road, with traffic guided past the works by traffic controllers. During the night-time relocation works, traffic heading south on the Parnassusweg will be temporarily diverted.
