Redevelopment of Kapel & Convict

The Kapel & Convict buildings are located in Beatrixpark in Amsterdam Zuidas. These buildings are municipal monuments and part of the former St. Nicolaaslyceum. The buildings are being redeveloped.

Kapel & Convict date back to the 1950s and lost their religious role at the end of the last century. Listed as a municipal monument in 2014, the buildings are currently being temporarily managed by Zwerfkei. The buildings are designated for cultural and/or social use and this zoning will be maintained in the future. According to the current development plans, the buildings will have a public purpose, ensuring that the monumental buildings are accessible to as many people as possible. The most likely designation will be a cultural and/or social use, together with hospitality/catering. There is potential for this to become a high-profile, vibrant place with an innovative use and programming.

Tender procedure

The City of Amsterdam expects to launch a tender procedure in 2023 in order to find a party to redevelop these two very special buildings in a unique spot in Amsterdam. It held a market consultation in September 2022, which revealed that there is market interest to proceed with this tender.
