Stibbe

The head office of Stibbe advocaten on Beethovenstraat and Beatrix Park was built between 2014 and 2016 according to a design by Jo Coenen Architects & Urbanists.

he urban design context of the Stibbe office building is characterised by a variety of atmospheres and different scale levels: to the east, it is a continuation of Amsterdam’s Zuidas, whereas the A10 dominates its northern side. To the west, Beethovenstraat is the main route to the city centre, whereas the eastern side is literally in Beatrixpark. A characteristic feature of the design is its organic footprints. This visual language allows the park to continue around the buildings, even making its presence felt from Beethovenstraat.

The flowing lines of the romantic Beatrixpark, designed in the style of a classic English garden, are reflected in the look and feel of the architecture. Featuring nine relatively high floors, the building’s volume has a scale that helps define the Zuidas skyline. It also has a human scale, thanks to its distinctly transparent plinth, dominated by natural stone and glass. This human scale can also be seen from the different floors that disappear, deflect or are recessed by setbacks the higher up you go. The building is crowned by the oval conference room, featuring a steel frame and canopy adding additional structure and height.
