On a plot of land measuring around 1,200 sq. m. in the Vivaldi neighbourhood next to the Ravel residential district currently under construction, there are plans for an office building in the future. But that is still some way off, and in the meantime we are hoping to give the undeveloped land a temporary use. Our aim is to improve vibrancy and social safety. Plot 13 (see the map below) will be available from January 2026 until 31 December 2029.

What does the process involve?

You can submit your proposal until Friday, 12 September 2025. The City of Amsterdam will then judge the entries and announce the winner(s) on 1 October. The planning permit will then be applied for, while the initiator will themselves take care of the finance, project execution and plot maintenance. The initiative will start to be implemented in January 2026.

Plots put to temporary use

In the years ahead, we are transforming Zuidas into an Amsterdam city district where people can live, work, stroll and study. As a result, there are regularly empty plots awaiting development, similar to this one in Vivaldi. Currently, it is in use as a community garden where children can learn about green initiatives and diversity as they play. This contract will shortly expire, which is why we are now in search of a new, temporary use.

At the moment, the Vivaldi neighbourhood consists mainly of offices and hotels, such as EY, hotel Van der Valk Amsterdam Zuidas and the Holiday Inn. In the Eurocenter building, there are also slightly over 80 homes. In a few years’ time, the developer Breevast will start construction on a residential tower on plot 4, with amenities in the base of the building. In 2029/2030, construction work is scheduled to start on a new office on plot 13 between EMA and hotel Van der Valk Amsterdam Zuidas – we are currently looking for a temporary new use for this plot.
