We regularly receive complaints about untidiness in the streets of Zuidas. Of course, waste removal is one of the City of Amsterdam’s key tasks, but you can also make a contribution yourself. For example, you could join forces with local residents and organisations to organise clean-up and litter-picking campaigns. But you may have a much better idea of your own. You can apply for a subsidy for it.

Deadline: 1 December

You have until 1 December 2025 to submit a subsidy application. However, the funds may run out before that date. Your activity must be in the Zuid city district and your application must be submitted at least eight weeks before the activity. You will be informed whether or not you will receive the subsidy within four weeks of your application. You can apply for up to a maximum of €10,000. View all of the conditions (in Dutch).

What you will need

For the Zuid city district Clean Street subsidy application, you must compile an activities plan. This should include details of the activity for which you are applying for a subsidy, what you aim to achieve and who will be participating. This could be other residents or organisations and businesses. Your plan should also indicate where your activity will be. You should include an estimate of the cost of your plan and apply for a permit or licence if that is required.

World Cleanup Day

Have you already made a note of Saturday, 20 September 2025 in your diary? That is the date of World Cleanup Day. On this day, local residents come together to collect litter in their neighbourhood. Amsterdam is also joining in. You can even borrow free litter pickers.
