Strawinsky
The Strawinsky neighbourhood is located between the north side of Amsterdam Zuid station and Prinses Irenestraat. This lively part of Zuidas marks the transition between the busy station zone and Amsterdam Zuid.
Strawinsky is home to some of Zuidas’s oldest buildings, now primarily used as offices. For example, Atrium is located on the corner of Parnassusweg and Eduard van Beinumstraat (alongside the A10 Zuid), and was built in the early 1970s as the Nederlandse Middenstandsbank (NMD) headquarters. The former Stibbe towers (now 2Amsterdam) and WTC Amsterdam are also located here.
Brutalist buildings
In Prinses Irenestraat, there are several buildings that were originally intended as a buffer between the high-rise buildings in Zuidas and the low-rise Prinses Irenebuurt buildings. They date back to the 1970s and were built in brutalist style. The Strawinskyhuis is one of these buildings. All of these buildings have now been renovated, while retaining their character.
Although there is no housing in Strawinsky, the area is intensively used. In 2019, we relandscaped the central square in Prinses Irenelaan and it was also given a new name: Prinses Amaliaplein. People come to meet on the green square to have lunch and relax and children can be seen playing in the water in the summer. In the years ahead, we will also be relandscaping the area around PI59 (the Philips headquarters). This will include extending the green canal, which currently runs in front of the Goede Doelen Loterij building.
