The section alongside Parnassusweg will soon connect to the entrance to the museum. The section next to Fred. Roeskestraat is set to be made greener, providing a calm setting in which to enjoy the surroundings. During two rounds of consultations, we are talking to residents and interested parties from the Parnas neighbourhood. This started with a walk-in meeting held on 1 December 2025, where we presented the draft design to the local community. We then held talks with businesses in the area and allowed other stakeholders to give their views in an online questionnaire. You can find detailed feedback on the results in our library (in Dutch), and we provide a brief summary below.

The draft design was presented during a walk-in meeting

What matters to you?

You were active in contributing your ideas both during the walk-in meeting and by means of the questionnaire. The area is currently considered to be very developed. Although you are happy with the trees already there, more biodiversity in the planting would be welcome. You would prefer to see planting that remains attractive in the winter. There is also a need for places to spend time that are well lit. There was a lot of enthusiasm for the idea of more art in the public realm.

Issues raised

The section of the public space next to plots C2/C3 (alongside the Hartwig Museum) will be landscaped when these plots are also being developed. You also had questions about the safety of bicycle crossings and about the future of flows of pedestrians. With that in mind, the design now includes two additional crossings. The carriageway here will be slightly raised to allow bicycles to brake, making it possible to cross safely. Finally, people asked for minimum possible disruption during the landscaping process and residents had questions about the view and possible shade caused by the new planting.

Next steps

These results complete the first round of participation. Where possible, the ideas and preferences expressed will be incorporated in a provisional design. The second and final round of participation will take place in the spring of 2026 and people directly involved will be sent a residents’ letter detailing progress. For the presentation of the provisional design, we will organise a second residents’ meeting, where you will also have an opportunity to respond. Any responses will be incorporated where possible in the definitive design that is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026. Completion of the public space is planned for the second half of 2028, when the museum will also be opening.
