When the Brittenpassage opens on 1 November 2026, the existing station entrance (Minervapassage) will close for a major refurbishment. For the next few years, the entrance to Amsterdam Zuid station will move around 200 metres to the west. Over the coming years, we will completely renovate, widen and raise the Minervapassage. But before that happens, we are giving the familiar old passageway a festive send-off. From roller skating and chess to Lego building, painting and live music, there will be something for everyone. Places on the workshops are limited and demand is high, so sign up soon to avoid missing out on the day.
Create a giant mural with STRAAT Museum
Our registration page has a full overview of all the workshops, activities and performances. One of the creative highlights is the chance to help paint a giant mural together, guided by professional artists from STRAAT Museum. Discover how colours, shapes and patterns can bring a work of art to life. The theme? Connection and accessibility. Everyone can contribute to the artwork in their own way. No painting experience is needed, and all ages are welcome. The workshops last half an hour and start at 12.00, 12.30, 13.00, 14.00, 14.30 and 15.00. The painting activity will take place at the (southern) entrance to the Minervapassage, on Gustav Mahlerplein.
Play or watch table tennis
Fancy a sporting challenge? Join a (mini) table tennis tournament and compete against other players over 45 minutes. Experts from Shot table tennis club in Soest and the University Table Tennis Association Amsterdam will supervise the matches. Eight participants will play at each table, with prizes for the winners. Children aged seven and over can take part, so why not bring your children, neighbours or family along? The mini tournaments start at 12.00, 14.00 and 16.00. Prefer to watch the experts first? The clubs will give demonstrations at 13.00 and 15.00. You can also challenge the experts in ‘Beat the Bat’ at 13.30 and 15.30, or enjoy a casual game at any time during the afternoon. No registration is needed for the demonstrations and casual games.
Challenge a chess master
As we mentioned earlier, chess enthusiasts will also have the chance to put their skills to the test. In a timed simultaneous exhibition, you and nine other participants can take on Woman Grandmaster Anna-Maja Kazarian (12.00) or International Master Merijn van Delft (14.30). It’s a great opportunity to play against a chess master. Please note that this activity is very popular, so the last few places may fill up quickly.
