Vote for Zuidplein’s rainbow staircase

Commissioned by Zuid city district, designers Jasper Eustace, Alessandro Solci, and Marianne van Lochem have together devised 15 designs for this covering. From these, a selection committee made of seven people involved in the LGBTIQ+ community in Zuid, has drawn up a shortlist of three designs. It’s now up to you to make a final choice from these three designs. You can vote here.

The acronym LGBTIQ+ stands for lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people, intersex people, queer people, and others whose gender identity, gender expression, sexuality, or body are outside the ‘standard norm’.

The location of Zuidplein first emerged after the city district committee called for a rainbow zebra crossing on Stadhouderskade last year. This location was found to be unsuitable for traffic reasons. A new opportunity arose on the much-used staircase in Zuidplein.

From 16 November to 30 November 2020, everyone can vote for one of the three designs here. In December, we will announce which design has been chosen and tell you more about how it will be realised.
