OBA NEXT not coming to Zuidas after all

The plans for OBA NEXT in Zuidas had already reached an advanced stage. In April 2021, Amsterdam city council took the credit decision and the tendering process began in July 2021.

A public meeting place

OBA NEXT would have been the perfect fit for Zuidas’s ambition to become a lively and mixed neighbourhood for all residents of Amsterdam. The plans would have created a public meeting place featuring knowledge, innovation, art and culture, while simultaneously creating connections with residents from other parts of the city.

Societal partners

Societal partners in the area were also involved in the development, such as the debating organization Argan, IMC Weekend School Foundation, the Study Rooms Foundation, Giving Back, TechConnect, the Journalists’ House, VU University, European Cultural Foundation and House of Skills.

Change of plan

Zuidas will now assess the consequences of this decision in more detail, and then consider a new use for the vacant land in the Kenniskwartier neighbourhood, where OBA NEXT was going to be.
