In the partly listed court building on Parnassusweg 220, the Hartwig Art Foundation is creating a museum for contemporary art. In late 2023, contractors JP van Eesteren started stripping out the interior. Work on demolishing the interior and the safe removal of historic elements are coming to their conclusion. A start has also been made on the demolition of the non-listed rear section, which will later be replaced by newbuild. In January 2025, the contractor will begin the construction of basement here. This will certainly not go unnoticed elsewhere in the neighbourhood.
Cycle path and building site
The cycle path between Bagels & Beans and the cyclists’ tunnel on Parnassusweg will be closed until 5 January 2025. Diversion routes will be in place for cyclists. The contractors are building a new entrance here. Part of the temporary car park behind Uitvaartcentrum Zuid is now being used as a building site for the contractor. The route used by construction vehicles runs via the ramp from Parnassusweg past the new court building. We are doing this in order to keep the amount of construction traffic on Fred. Roeskestraat to a minimum. You can find out how the work is progressing from the contractor.
Temporary court plot
The site of the former temporary court (Fred. Roeskestraat 55, plot C2/C3) will in due course see the creation of a building with homes and offices. The zoning plan that has made this development possible was adopted on 27 March 2024 by the city council. However, an appeal against this decision has been lodged with the Council of State. As a result, the owner of the plot, the Central Government Real Estate Agency, is unable to proceed with the public sale for the benefit of the development. The appeal procedure will take some time. The public sale and the development of the plot depends on the ruling by the Council of State. It is not known when the ruling will be made.
Public space
The construction of the museum and the developments on plot C2/C3 will affect the public spaces in front of these buildings. We are making the design. The plan is to conclude the draft design for the public spaces during the next six months and to hold discussions on it with the local community after the summer of 2025.
Temporary sports hall
Next to the new court building, along the A10 Zuid, is plot F. There are long-term plans to erect an office building on this plot. First, though, we would like to build a temporary sports hall for a period of five years, because of the high level of demand in the city for physical education. The design is now ready. Unfortunately, this process has also been delayed due to overloading of the electricity network. We will be able to continue the development and permit application process only when the network operator is able to guarantee the supply of electricity. This is needed for both the construction work and the subsequent use of the sports hall.
