The 127 student flats commissioned by housing association DUWO will be a valuable addition to the midmarket and private sector housing in the adjacent complex The Pulse of Amsterdam and the 216 flats for first-timers in the residential building Stepstone some distance away. This location, within walking distance of both Amsterdam Zuid station and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam), is ideal for young people who are studying.

Design

According to the current plans, the building, no more than 30 m in height, will feature 127 student flats varying in surface area from 18 to 25 sq. m., including a number of multiple-occupancy rented flats with communal open kitchens. The definitive design by Mei Architects features a lot of green and uses high-quality materials, including ceramic and bamboo. The building will also boast a communal meeting and study area, a launderette and a bicycle park. A commercial area measuring around 150 sq. m. in the plinth of the building is set to add additional vibrancy to the future Hildegard von Bingenstraat.

Schedule

Based on the long-term lease agreement, the pile-driving is set to start in early 2026. It is expected that the complex will be completed in early 2027 and the new occupants will then be able to take residence.
